This site should work for everyone who needs it.

Most people who come here are helping a parent, and many are older themselves. Some use a screen reader, some make the text bigger, some use a keyboard instead of a mouse, and some are reading at eleven at night after a hard day. The site is built and tested with that in mind.

If something here gets in your way, tell us

You do not need to explain the technical part. Say what you were trying to do and what happened, and we will help you directly and fix the page.

We aim to reply within three business days. If a page is stopping you from getting an answer, ask us on the phone and we will give you the same information that way — you should never have to fight a website to find out about care for someone you love.

The standard we build to

We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard most commonly referenced for websites in the United States.

We do not claim this site is perfect or fully conformant. No honest website does. Some parts of the standard can only be judged by a person rather than a tool — whether a description of a photograph is actually useful, whether a page makes sense read aloud from top to bottom — and those reviews happen periodically rather than continuously. Where we know something falls short, we fix it and record it.

What is checked, and when

Accessibility checks run automatically every time this site is built, not once a year by an outside firm. Every public page is checked for the things that most often shut people out:

• Images that carry meaning have text alternatives.
• Every form field has a label a screen reader will announce, and every link and button has a name that says where it goes.
• Text meets the contrast ratios the standard requires, measured against the actual background it sits on.
• Headings describe the real structure of the page, with no levels skipped.
• Controls are large enough to hit, and reachable and usable with a keyboard alone.
• The page declares its language, so a screen reader pronounces it correctly.

A build that fails any of these does not ship. There is no accessibility overlay or plug-in on this site: those widgets are widely reported to interfere with the screen readers and other assistive software people already use and rely on.

Known limitations

Testing with a real screen reader, operated by a person who uses one daily, is the check no automated tool replaces, and it is a review we carry out periodically rather than on every change. If you use assistive technology and something here does not work, that report is more valuable to us than any tool, and we would be glad to hear it.
